When CASTELLI created the first aero jersey for road racing in 2006, everyone thought we were crazy, including some pro riders. Back then, aerodynamics was just for time trials. Functional clothing meant moisture wicking, and the Tour de France could be won in a loose jersey that was essentially a polyester t-shirt with pockets on the back. Even our aerodynamics consultants expected only a minimal advantage, if any, which is why we named the jersey the Fraction of a Second. In the end, the advantages of the jersey were quite significant and we were able to start a revolution in the look of the pro peloton. The jersey is now in its seventh generation and we've managed to improve it every time. We still rely heavily on CFD analysis of airflow in the riding position for material and seam placement, and together with feedback from riders, we are able to create a jersey that is not only fast, but also comfortable on long rides. With the Aero Kid jersey, young up-and-coming cyclists can ride in the same jersey and get the same benefits as its heroes in the pro peloton.
