Cyclingnews.com claims that "this jacket sets a whole new bar for what a winter jacket can do" and that's exactly what the perfect winter jacket should be. We think we've made our best jacket even better in the form of the next generation, the Alpha Doppio RoS.
Even the best materials currently available with good levels of breathability can't cope with the sweat and heat generated by high intensity riding. That's why we developed a double-layer construction that allows you to have the outer, windproof layer unzipped while the inner insulating layer stays zipped up, and thanks to airflow, moisture can escape and the outer layer doesn't come into direct contact with the skin. When riding uphill, you can completely unzip the outer layer and vent moisture and zip up before descending and you'll be completely dry inside. It works so well it feels like magic.
For this generation, we've used a softer and warmer insulating material - Polartec® Alpha Direct. We've also made a few changes to the ends of the jacket: the neck, the waist and, first and foremost, the wrists. We've lengthened and shaped the neck so that it moves with you, whether you're pedaling standing up or stepping on your buddies at a January workout together. At the waist, we created a stretch panel with a flat silicone hem, that fits great and insulates from the wind without rolling or sliding up. We've updated the wrist closure, which now has an inner layer that fits snugly to the wrist and goes into the glove, and an outer layer that wraps around the outside of the glove so water runs off and not into the glove.
This jacket will stand up to wet conditions, we've used GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® with waterproof sealed critical seams at the shoulders. Other seams are hidden from direct contact with water, and the fabric's water-repellent finish keeps most moisture out. The jacket is, as we say, "essentially waterproof", to the maximum extent possible while maintaining a balance between water protection, breathability and comfort. We're not saying that not a drop will leak in, but we regularly take long rides in rainy weather and are completely dry. These features make it the jacket of choice for most of our ambassadors and staff, and make it the most versatile winter jacket we've ever made.
