Polartec® Alpha® is an amazing insulation, it is soft, flexible and lightweight. A few years ago we thought it would be excellent as a base layer, but it tended to be damp and sticky on the skin. But when we were looking for better insulation for sub-zero riding, we tried it on the Alpha® prototype as a second layer over the Prosecco base layer - and that's when we discovered the best combination for riding in the cold. We worked on the details and created this second layer for frosty rides. We used a half-zip so it doesn't create bulk on the lower torso, and we sewed the zipper slightly off-center to avoid multiplying the number of zippers at the neck. We kept the cut close to the body, so you have the choice of tucking it into your pants or leaving it loose like we did. We've found it works well over even a base layer of Flanders, Bandito, Miracolo or Seamless.
